Description: Helping you reach your fuller potential, Acting 2 takes it to the extreme.

Become a creator/performer of your own Solo Show!

This Acting Intensive is all about imagination and character. Using a fun and thorough exploration of body and vocal expression, playwriting, story crafting and improvisation you will devise, rehearse and present a 3-5 minute original solo performance piece.


Open to:  Actors who have completed CAT Acting Fundamentals 1 or have had other acting workshops/training. No playwriting experience needed.

Directing Intensive with Tanya Ryga - Direct for the One Act Play Festival!

Feb 11- March 26    Tuesdays  

March 28- April 30   Tuesdays & Thursdays

May 1- June 15        Directors set their own rehearsal schedule with their cast/crew.

One Act Play Fest   Tech Week/ Shows June 3-15


To prepare directors to direct a play in CAT’s One Act Play Festival -June 6-15, 2019

Topics covered:

1.    The director as collaborator, facilitator and leader

2.    Directorial elements: vision, design, staging, script analysis & rehearsal preparation

3.    Auditions/Casting: How to prep for, coach at, and cast effectively

4.    Rehearsals: setting your style, directing strategies, planning and delivery at rehearsal, and no-no’s (including the three mistakes most directors make!)

5.    Creative techniques & language to getting the best from your Actors (including the three mistakes most actors make!)

6.    Being ready for Tech week – the addition of lights, sound, set & costumes.

7.    Performance & debrief.


Open to:  Open to people with acting and/or directing experience. Limited space.

Blood Relations written by Sharon Pollock,


Blood Relations written by Sharon Pollock, will be hitting our Nickle Studio stage

on the 3rd floor of the Memorial Centre in May 2019. Blood Relations is a

psychological murder mystery that is based on fact and speculation surrounding

the life of Lizzie Borden and the murders of her father and stepmother. This

production will be directed by Piper Rempel of Edmonton, AB.

Auditions for this show will be held on the following dates:

Friday, January 11th, 2019 / 6pm to 9pm

Saturday, January 12th, 2019 / 10am to 1pm

We are looking to cast the following roles:

MISS LIZZIE : Late 20s to mid 30s age range, female.

THE ACTRESS : Similar age range to Miss Lizzie. Again, late 20s, early 30s.

HARRY : Similar in age to Abigail Borden. 50?

EMMA BORDEN : Similar in age to Miss Lizzie but slightly older if possible. 30s

would be ideal.

ANDREW BORDEN : 50s or 60s, an older man.

ABIGAIL BORDEN : Proportional to Andrew, 50s or 60s.

DR PATRICK : Late 20s, early 30s. An unmarried young professional.

The director of this show is looking for those auditioning to prepare a 1-2 minute

contemporary monologue (no Shakespeare please!). There will also be a few

chosen cold reads done from the play itself, followed by a brief interview. Those

interested in auditioning must contact our VP of Productions, Cynthia Edwards, to

Fall Acting Intensive

Back by popular demand this packed acting workshop covers the essentials while working on a scene or short play and will expand your knowledge and application of the actor’s craft. Activities include script preparation, rehearsal techniques and skills to become a more authentic and emotionally alive actor. This workshop will kickstart those actors early in their on-stage experiences as well as veterans wishing to reconnect with their love of acting. Because participants are paired with a scene partner attendance at each of the 8 sessions is mandatory.

Dates for the workshop are:

Tues/Thurs from 7:00pm-9:30 pm. Oct 23,25, 30, Nov 1,6,8,13,15

We are now holding a second round of auditions to find the right person for each part. We are specifically looking for male actors 30+. Auditions will take place September 9th, 2018 from 6:00-9:00.

The shows we are holding auditions for are Cliffhanger (rehearsals beginning in November, show runs in January/February) , and Real Estate (Show begins rehearsals in January, and runs in March).
