Our Objective

The objective of Central Alberta Theatre is to promote and recognize artistic, literary and cultural talent in the performing arts and to develop community interest; to maintain an active organization dedicated to the production of first-rate performing arts on a community level.

Between all the performances staged at the memorial centre, Black Knight Inn and CAT Studios we easily surpass over one hundred shows every year, allowing opportunities of all kinds for our volunteers.

Years Serving our ARTS COMMUNITY

Central Alberta Theatre Society started in 1970 in Red Deer, Alberta, making it one of the oldest not-for-profit, volunteer-based amateur theatre companies in Canada. In 1994, in a mutually beneficial lease-agreement with the City of Red Deer, CAT took over the operation of the 704 seat Memorial Centre Theatre.

Volunteer Hours per Season

Central Alberta Theatre has over Ten Thousand Hours of volunteers per year! With just over 230 active volunteers. Volunteering here or anywhere is a great way to gain experience and discover new talents.

REd Deer Memorial Centre

Concerts, shows, special events, there’s no better place to enjoy a performance than at Red Deer Memorial Centre, Red Deer's largest soft seat venue for concerts and live theatre. The 704-seat Memorial Centre was built in 1951, in memory of those who lost their lives in World War I and World War II. Today it plays host to a wide variety of artists, both local and international, concerts, dance recitals, children’s shows, theatre, comedians, and many other public events. More info…
 

Central alberta theatre studio productions

Central ALberta Theatre has many smaller studios within its walls to house all sorts of smaller productions. The Nickle studio, BKI, Community Saving and more. Great spaces to rehearse put on more intimate productions. More info…

Dinner Theatre

Central Alberta Theatre is proud to announce they will be returning to The Black Knight Inn for their 2019-2020 season. Bringing you an plethora of theatrical evenings, starting in November and running until the end of February. We are very pleased to be once again collaborating with The Black Knight Inn with their outstanding buffet to match the atmosphere created by our talented actors and volunteers. Blood Relations.. This was a great play. I have never watched a play with a Thrust? Stage. Tickets were a great price and the Theatre is small. Loved it! I don't know the full story of Lizzy Borden but this gave me a great idea of the events. Such great acting!
